The KWM-2A is the
second in a line of two great transceivers. Both the KWM-2 and
KWM-2A's were used mobile, portable, air mobile, etc. These
units would easily fit in to custom suitcases CC-1,CC-2, etc.
and carried as luggage all over the world. There are many stories
about how these little puppies were used in both military applications
and civilian applications to effect reliable communications.
A couple of interesting observations can be made by looking
closely at the front panel. First, this unit has thick (as as
opposed to thin) "eye brows". This indicates that the unit was
manufactured as a KWM-2A, not upgraded to a KWM-2A from a KWM-2.
Obviously the KWM-2 had thin eyebrows when manufactured. In
addition this unit includes a "finger" knob with internal weight.
There are many versions of this unit. The more
recent units had plug able relays, superior wiring and current
Collins
ECN's. The major difference between the KWM-2A and the KWM-2
is the 2A has the second crystal bank allowing almost general
coverage for transceiver operation.
