The KWM-1 was the first of the small
form factor packaged communications systems. This unit
started the movement to smaller is better. The KWM-1 was
designed for mobile operation and covers only 20 meters
through 10 meters, leaving the three (at the time) low
bands out. This unit taught the Collins engineers about
tight packaging. The lessons learned were applied to the
development of the S-Line and the KWM-2 and 2A. This unit
was restored by Wayne Spring. The 516F-1 power supply
is shown. The speaker console (312B-1) is not part of
my collection. An interesting view is a comparison of
the top view of the KWM-2A and the KMW-1.
