Collins 75A-4 Receiver

This 75A-4 was restored by Howard Mills. The following paragraphs identify the modifications and updates that were accomplished during the restoration process.

1. Increased selectivity. Better skirt response. replace intermediate amplifier tank circuit L27/C80 with Collins Mechanical filter. This receiver has four filters. Three are evident in the usual position (left front). The fourth filter (3.1KHZ) is on the far right.

2. RF amplifier. Replace V2 with a 6GM6 to increase receiver sensitivity. AGC is also modified.

3. Replace first mixer V3 with 6DJ8. Reduces receiver noise.

4. Replace second mixer V5 with 6EA8. Reduces receiver noise.

5. Modification to improve receiver audio

6. Modification to reduce SSB distortion.

7. Modification to improve slow AVC.

The paragraph describing the modifications and updates is not a technical description for the process. For example a tube change my be accompanied by a discrete component change. There are many modifications recommended for update the 75A-4. Be careful with what you select.
