I
really do like the A-Line receivers. The 75A-1 makes such a nice match to the 32V-3, both with their linear band spread scales and dual horizontal chrome strips (see below). After World War II the styling of these units was business "like serious" with attractive accents. The guys in Cedar Rapids had a sense of style that set the standard for the rest of the industry for almost a decade. The new receivers for the Amateur Radio Service were high technology. The introduction of the highly stable permeability tuned oscillators (PTO) and narrow bandwidth mechanical filters were core to a new mode of communication. Before, in non-wide bandwidth critical modes of communication, frequency drift was tolerated. For Single Sideband (SSB) to work both stability and constrained band pass were required. The new innovations that are progressively displayed in the A1, A2, A3 and A4 receivers made the new SSB mode of communication successful.. I am fortunate to own the A-Line receivers that have been creatively restored by Howard Mills. All of these units are immaculate and display specifications that exceed factory.
